Have you been searching for a perfect winter retreat idea? Check out this Flagstaff glamping cabin rental in Arizona. Adorably built, off-grid, and tucked away in the ponderosa pines, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to book here this winter. Tim & I are always in search of unique vacation rentals and this one was no exception :)!
What is a Glamping Cabin Rental?
What is “glamping”? Well, glamping is basically “glamourous camping”. To clarify, it’s any type of luxurious tent-living or other camping-style accommodations. And this little off-grid cabin sure fits this definition perfectly.
Glamping Cabin Rental Property
Twenty miles north of the town of Flagstaff sits this charming Glamping Cabin vacation rental in Arizona. (Yes, us Arizonans do get snow! ) Firstly, as you head down the icy fire service road you’ll catch glimpse of the gorgeous San Francisco Peaks glistening in the distance. All of a sudden you’ll be greeted by tall Aspen groves that help guide you to this vacation property.
Secondly, you will need a 4×4 vehicle to get to this cabin during the winter due to the icy dirt road.
At this point, if you’re arriving for check-in around 4 pm, the tree limbs begin to glow a warm orange tone. Not only were the tree bases covered in soft twinkling snow, but so was the entire surrounding ground of the cabin. As you could assume, we couldn’t wait to get inside.
Off-the-Grid Amenities
When Tim and I first visited this cabin, it was a chilly 32 degrees outside. Tim went inside to get the heater running. I unloaded our bags from the back of the truck in the meantime. Shortly thereafter I opened the door to find him still searching in confusion for the heater. “I can’t find it,” he said. “Do you see it anywhere?”. I examined the walls with no success and then pulled up the Airbnb post. At this point, I began laughing until my stomach hurt. Despite Tim successfully booking this rental for us, HE FAILED TO ACTUALLY READ THE FULL LISTING DESCRIPTION.
He said he must have “missed” the part that said things like no electricity, no running water, and no indoor bathroom (just an outhouse).
I treasure those moments the most from our vacation stays. The unexpected events that make a trip special and unique are what make it the most memorable.
We wouldn’t have had it any other way. After a good laugh, Tim chopped up the firewood for the woodstove ( aka our heater for our stay ). In time, the fireplace warmed up and the little cabin had converted from a chilly icebox to a now a cozy retreat.
Off-grid features:
- Electricity is not available. To clarify, that means all lights are battery-powered.
- A woodburning stove also acts as the heater.
- Ther is no running water. In this case, there is a hand pump that pulls water from a 10-gallon jug under the sink which is full upon arrival.
- A outdoor rustic shower.
- An outdoor composting toilet.
The cabin itself was charming, but even the wooden outhouse outside was just as adorable. Although it was tiny, it was perfectly clean and surprisingly it didn’t even smell like a typical outhouse.
Glamping Cabin | Things to Do
If you know anything about Arizona, you know we get some brutally hot summers due to our climate. So, when winter comes around, all the locals head north to Flagstaff to catch a glimpse of winter!
Due to this glamping cabin vacation rental’s location to Snowbowl Ski Resort, it makes it perfectly situated for access to more winter activities. Given that this cabin is so close to the resort, you can easily get an early start on the slopes to avoid some of the busy crowds heading up from Phoenix.
Afterward, don’t forget to check out some of the amazing breweries in town like Flagstaff Brewing Company and Dark Sky Brewing if you like a good drink.
This place reminded us a little of our California A-Frame Cabin Rental we stayed at once right next to Big Bear Mountain Ski Resort. If you can’t tell, we have a thing for unique Airbnb rentals!
We spent hours sitting around the gas-operated fire pit in the backyard playing fetch with our Siberian Husky. Because our pup rarely gets an opportunity to be off-leash, she was loving bouncing around freely in the snow with all her toys.
If you are searching for a Flagstaff glamping cabin rental in Arizona, then this place is for you. Not only was it a super cozy cabin, but it also checked all the boxes we had for things to do in the area.
Glamping Cabin in the Fall
Tim and I made a return trip here in the fall and it was just as stunning! The new owners created this unique tipi swing addition shown below. I can’t wait to come back and see the property when they complete their other fun projects that were started on the property when we visited.
We are glad to be able to share this Flagstaff glamping cabin rental with others who respect the beauty of this off-grid experience.
