Looking for a much needed girls trip idea? Or maybe just need some inspiration for a last minute vacation? Bimini, a gorgeous island in the Bahamas, is filled with white sand beaches, shipwrecks, shark diving, and did I mention, piña coladas! Check out some of Genna & I’s top things to do while on the island of Bimini below.
Where to Stay
Hilton at Resorts World Bimini
Bimini is a very small island in the Bahamas. So small that only about 2,000 people live on the island. One popular place visitors stay on the island is the Hilton at Resorts World Bimini. The area known as Resorts World will be where a majority of the tourists stay and eat while on the island.
Once we landed on the South Bimini island, there was a shuttle that took us to the Resorts World Bimini Transport Ferry which takes you right over to the north island and up to the Hilton Dock which was super convenient and only cost about $8 per person.
Transportation on the Island
Most all transportation on the island is via golf cart or hotel shuttle. There is also one gas station ( 2 pumps ) near Alice Town.
The rooftop of the Hilton at Resorts World Bimini has a beautiful pool and bar that overlooks the crystal clear blue ocean. It’s a wonderful spot to catch a sunrise or sunset and grab one of their famous piña coladas.
Visit the Shipwreck
Gallant Lady in South Bimini
After researching the area a couple weeks before visiting, we came across this shipwreck on the beaches near Alice Town. This small ship hit the reef during hurricane in 1997 and is slowly deteriorating. As of 2019 it looks like this (photo above). It’s amazing how much of a toll the salt water and storms have affected this ship over the past 23 years.
Unique Historic Spots
Dolphin House and More!
Dolphin House | Alice Town | Bimini, Bahamas
I brought along my Sony A7RII which I have been using to talk most of these photos. I’ve since then, I’ve upgraded to the Sony A7RIII. Click here to see all my gear I use for my trips.
After visiting the Gallant Lady shipwreck, we took our golf cart around the island exploring all the unique buildings and small restaurants in the area. One of the most beautifully designed buildings we came across was the Dolphin House by Designer Ashley Saunders. Saunders uses recycled materials such as tile pieces, scrap wood and even items that have washed up on the beach such as conch shells or sea glass.
Saunders was working on the top floor when we drove by and invited us in to check it out. The level of detail in his work is unreal and it was truly a tour worth taking. Tips are encouraged and I even traded some US coins for some Bimini coins for my collection back home. Looking to stop by when visiting? See the Dolphin house on a map.
There are only a handful or places to stop for a drink or meal when you’re out and about on the southern end of the North Island of Bimini. We grabbed a drink at Sharkies Bar & Grill after one of our shark dives. This is located right near the boat docks and you might also get lucky and see some nurse sharks and stingrays from the dock! Visitors from the other islands dock here as well and were super friendly. They even helped us fish out Genna’s lost flip flop in the ocean when it fell in accidentally. HAHA! Good times.
Joe’s Conch Shack, located near the beach in Bailey Town, is also a great stop for some fresh conch salad! If you’re looking to try some authentic Bahamian food this would be the place! We also made a stop at Stuart’s Conch Stand for some Sand’s beers and a snack as well – the view was gorgeous from the deck!
Scuba Diving
Hammerhead and Wreck Dive
Bimini is known as one of the top places on earth to connect with the ocean’s most unique shark, the Hammerhead Shark. Genna originally inspired me to get my scuba certification and we were thrilled to finally get a chance to dive together! We visited in April just at the tail end of hammerhead season and I can’t express how it felt to connect with nature in such a breathtaking experience. To read all about this dive, please visit my Shark Dive in Bimini post.
We got that underwater shot that are half above / half below the water with this little dome! It’s a great attachment and captures photos like the this example above.

White Sand Beaches
Northern Bimini
By day, guests can explore the many of the white sand beaches around the island. Just a short golf cart ride north of the Hilton was the Luna Beach Club where we were able to grab a Pina Colada and sit on the beach and relax on the last day of this adventure. A great way to end the trip before heading home back to reality.
We’ll miss this vacation for years to come and hopefully will be back to the Bahamas again for another island visit!
